The KAROORAK system was first designed and tested on a 32 bike trailer and we then later built hitch mounted versions. We have been using the system in it's current form for 5 years and have transported hundreds of customer's bikes over thousands of kilometres of Karoo dirt roads on our GravelGrinder Tours.

We have consolidated our designs into one offering by creating a modular approach in terms of load and drop-back assistance.
New hitch attachment Design: (available for order now)

  • Drop-Back Mechanism: unassisted and can be configured for 45°, 60°, or 75° angles for rear access.
  • Weight reduction and price drop: Unassisted drop-back option reduces weight and price compared to the older hydraulic version.

Add-On Options (available late November 2025):
  • Damper: Slows drop-back speed for heavier multiple e-bike loading.
  • Electronic actuator: Raises/lowers rack using vehicle power for assisted e-bike loading and unloading.

Certain hitch types are supported.

We support the 2 bolt hitch mechanism, we have an adapter that bolts in behind the towing ball, it remains on the vehicle.
We support a 50mm receiver hitch found on many SUV's and trucks.
The rack does not have ball friction mount option, due to friction system weight limitations, we therefore do not accommodate "gooseneck" style vehicle hitches.
